Assisted living for Alzheimer's Stage 6 patient

A close family member of mine has lived in a local assisted living facility for just a little over 2 years.
He is 78 years old and currently in Stage 6 of Alzheimer's Disease. Last month he slipped and fell and broke his leg. After his surgery he was discharged to a local skilled nursing center that specialized in surgery recovery and physical therapy. He recently got out of a wheelchair and is starting to use a walker but only with assistance from his therapists, without their assistance he stays in his wheelchair.
My wife thinks we should transfer him to a nursing home full time, one that specializes in memory care for Alzheimer's. We think he will require too much assistance with his daily tasks to remain in an assisted living home. The assisted living facility will have an evaluation soon, but I'm not sure how thorough this will be.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice on whether we should transfer him to a nursing home or keep him in assisted living?
